There should be interactive equipment for customers to find out basic info such as restroom locations, where to get a library card, etc. without having to ask a staff member (unless they want).
The Marketplace should "tease” new titles, new programs and new services.
There should be space for plenty of self-checkout stations, and it should be clearly marked. There also should be room for people to line up without creating clutter, and checkout stations should have space for people to put materials down while they check out.
The welcome desk should be big enough for staff to talk with customers, but just that. It should encourage staff to roam the welcome area and interact with customers across the space.
The space should have clear signs and guides so that people don't necessarily have to talk to someone to find out where to go and what to do.
