I attended the April 2015 Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association breakfast and heard that you're doing away with the loading dock in order to bump out from the back of the lobby. Since we have a lot of homeless people at the MLK branch and since they benefit from FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE, they will answer that it does not matter to them that the interim library is not WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE; this will cause the survey to be slanted. The most recent draft building plan was released in October, with ideas and priorities for the renovated MLK Library.
What do you think?
The Reeves Center is metro accessible,
A mini maker space reintegrating the vacant space.
Visiting more than one interim location to get what you need?
Walking more than two city blocks from the Metro? Taking the bus instead of the train to get to the library?
Walk? Drive? Metro? Taxi? Bike? Uber? All of the above?
An interim library for MLK could be one space or multiple spaces. Would you rather:
Have fewer library programs or services all in one place ...
Have more library programs and services separated among multiple locations
What do you use the library for and why?
Do you check out books? Attend events? Use computers? Hold or attend meetings?
Is MLK your neighborhood library? Is it convenient to work or weekend activities?

If that drop-in center included a lab, where people can find the equipment to retrieve the content on their old floppies, or get help with other digital preservation actions, that would be even better.
The library renovation is a great opportunity for DC to showcase innovative energy efficient building technologies. It would be a great way to educate the public indirectly about advanced building technologies, plus it would make the facility more comfortable (too hot in there today!) and reduce energy bills. Will the project plans ultimately incorporate more aggressive sustainability measures than what is detailed in ...more »
