Digital preservation drop-in center

I think it would be great if the library were able to offer a digital preservation drop-in center, where patrons can seek advice on best practices of managing their digital files and archives. If that drop-in center included a lab, where people can find the equipment to retrieve the content on their old floppies, or get help with other digital preservation actions, that would be even better.

Expanded ebook access

Bookstores are closing. If you ride the Metro look at the others who are using electronic books and media instead of paper. MLK needs to greatly expand all areas related to "e-books" and downloading electronic media. To say, "We have that now." is sadly shortsighted.

MLK Library renomation suggestions

It would be a good idea to expand on the Technology/Computer areas in the renovated Library. There are no job search labs or rooms with computers in the current MLK Library at 901 G. St. NW; oftentimes it is impossible to search for jobs and apply for them in 2 hours. Public Libraries around D.C only do give to computer users including job searchers only 2 hours( 1 hour sessions) per day. This is not enough time for ...more »

Incubator space for Entrepreneurs, Nonprofits, Tech

I really like the idea of incorporating technology in an organic way by inviting startups and local entrepreneurs to rent co-working desk/office space in a semi-mixed-use building. Including local technology entrepreneurs in that group ensures that the "tech" that patrons are exposed to stays up-to-date (to some extent) regardless of city budgets for the library, that youth that visit get a glimpse of the kinds of evolving ...more »
